An Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty in the Sussex Weald
A community website serving residents and visitors in the three villages of
Burwash, Burwash Common and Burwash Weald

Burwash Junior Sport & Fitness Club

A community based programme to provide children of primary school age with sporting and social activities. Formed in 1998, membership has increased steadily among local residents supplemented by many from outside the immediate area.

The upper age has rolled on each year as the youngsters have wanted to continue to attend and we now have members from aged 5 to 16 years, and some trainee coaches aged 15 and 16.

Activities are governed largely by what the young people want to do within financial feasibility, including football, soft hockey, stoolball, tennis, cricket and other organised team games.

We normally meet from 10-30am until 12-00 noon on Saturdays including most school holidays.

Since the 2001/2002 football season we have entered teams in the Weald of Kent Friendly League, which allows the young people to experience competitive football games but without the win at all costs mentality that seems to exist in other leagues. Results have steadily improved over time and while we are competitive, we really measure our success by the enjoyment the members get from attending.

Burwash Playing Field Association

Session fees are currently £2, which with the £25 annual membership goes towards affiliation fees, insurance costs and equipment. Members also need to purchase a club reversible shirt. In cases of hardship the committee will reduce or waive fees so that children are not excluded.

Other than members fees our finances are dependant on fund raising activities, donations and the support of the B.P.F.A. for greatly reduced hiring fees for the facilities of Swan Meadow.

We have held sponsored cycle rides, penalty shoots and football marathons to raise funds. We have also raised funds for Sport Relief and Comic Relief.

All of our supervisors are volunteers who give their time and energy for the benefit of the club and the youngsters. Most are now qualified Junior football coaches, first aiders, child protection trained and all are CRB checked. We have a strict Child Protection policy and Codes of Conduct for supervisors, the members and parents/guardians.

We play our football as Burwash Juniors FC (founded 2001) and are affiliated to the Sussex County Football Association.

Parents are very welcome to attend our sessions, to provide an extra pair of eyes or perhaps even to help with activities, after all exercise is good for us all!
